Engineering Management Frequently Asked Questions

Why take EGMT 571?

Why should I take EGMT 571: Managerial Statistics I if it does not count as credit toward my MS in Engineering Management??

EGMT 571-Managerial Statistics I is required for all MS EM students as a pre-requisite to EGMT 572-Managerial Statistics II. The credit for the course does not count toward your degree, however, you cannot take Managerial Statistics II without having taken Managerial Statistics I, or having proven that your preparation in statistics is sufficient for Managerial Statistics II

Over the past few years, our program has noticed certain trends, which have created problems for some students seeking the Master of Science in Engineering Management. In order to alleviate student misconceptions and concerns, we will set forth some information to help students gain a better understanding of the obligations of a Drexel Graduate student in Engineering Management. Please read this material carefully, and then contact the Department with any questions.

Curricular Area of Concern to Students:

  1. Under-preparation in statistics. Some students who enter the EGMT program have not had a basic course in statistics. To succeed in this curriculum in Managerial Statistics II (EGMT 572) and Operations Research I (EGMT 573) and Operations Research II (EGMT 574), you must have a strong knowledge of statistics. It is recommended that you take EGMT 571-Managerial Statistics I in Summer Term to prepare yourself for success. Please note that EGMT 571 does not count toward the 48 Quarter credit degree requirement for the EGMT degree. If you are interested in progressing directly to EGMT 572, Managerial Statistics II, you must request to take the STAT Placement Quiz with at least a "B+" grade.

I would like to waive EGMT 571, please tell me more about the STAT Placement Quiz.
