Engineering Management Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of the most commonly asked questions and their answers.

What is the tuition rate for graduate courses at Drexel?
You can find the current tuition and fees here

Where can I purchase textbooks and software for my classes?
There are several sources for textbooks. You can contact the Drexel University Bookstore, try Amazon.com, Textbooks.com, or ECampus.com, etc... We recommend that you purchase all software through the Drexel Bookstore, however, as they can get special pricing on software.

When is the last date I can drop a class without financial penalty?
The last date to drop a class without financial penalty is the last day of the second week of the term. This date is the same whether, as occasionally happens due to holiday scheduling, you have class the first week of the term or not. After the second week you are charged a percentage as per the Bursars Office.

Do I have to take Managerial Statistics I, and does it count toward my degree?
Managerial Statistics I is required for all students as a pre-requisite to Managerial Statistics II. The credit for the course does not count toward your degree, however you cannot take Managerial Statistics II without having taken Managerial Statistics I, or having proven that your preparation in statistics is sufficient for Managerial Statistics II.

I've never taken an online class before; how does it work?
Engineering Management utilzes WebCT Vista for online classes. Instructions on how to access and use WebCT Vista are available from several sources. IRT has an online tutorial, and Engineering Management has a basic document on picking up your Drexel accounts. In addition, some professors offer orientation sessions at the beginning of each term. All online classes can be accessed through the DrexelOne Portal. Please visit the IRT website for the most up-to-date information.

I need to take a couple of terms off to handle personal matters; do I need to do anything to make sure I remain a student?
We ask that you contact us via e-mail at egmt@coe.drexel.edu and inform us of your intention to take a few terms off. When you are ready to return, please contact us again so that we can make sure your status is upgraded to "active" and you are able to register for classes. Keep in mind that there is a time limit for completing your coursework for graduation, and if you think you may exceed this time limit (7 years) please contact the department and discuss the situation with your advisor.

How do I register for classes?
Log onto the DrexelOne Portal and go to the Student Services tab. Click on BannerWeb for students and follow the instructions for registering for classes.  If you get any sort of error when trying to register, contact our office at egmt@coe.drexel.edu and we will let you know if there is a pre-requisite for the class that you do not have, or if there is a problem that requires an add form.

What bandwidth requirements are there for online classes?
Online classes typically require a bandwidth of 40k or less. They are encoded for a 56K modem. Typically, if you are using a 56K modem and are connecting to your ISP at greater than 40K there aren't any problems.

What computing platform should I use for online classes?
Drexel University typically uses PC platforms for all functions. Contact IRT if you have a Mac and want to know if it will work with WebCT. Drexel does not suport Macintosh Computers!

What is the per-credit-hour tuition rate for graduate classes at Drexel?
The tuition rate for graduate classes can be found here.
