Frequently Asked Questions

What steps does someone with an international degree take to apply to the online engineering programs?

In addition to the general admissions requirements, anyone who has been born outside of the United States is required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and have an official score report (indicating a minimum score of 600) sent directly from Educational Testing Service (ETS) to Drexel University before their file is evaluated. TOEFL scores must be less than two years old to be considered. Information regarding the TOEFL can be obtained by contacting Educational Testing Service at 609-921-9000 or 609-771-7100 or by visiting www.toefl.org.

Also, international students are required to list on their application all schools attended, including primary and secondary schools. Along with your application, you must enclose official transcripts (mark sheets and degree certificates) in your native language and in English from all colleges and graduate/ professional schools that you attended. Do not send transcripts from secondary schools. If your school issues only one transcript for life, you may send a notarized photocopy, bearing the seal on each page. Applicants are responsible for contacting World Education Service, Inc. (WES), P.O. Box 745, Old Chelsea Station, New York, NY 10113-0745, 212-966-6311, www.wes.org , for evaluation of transcripts and are responsible for supplying all necessary documentation.

What undergraduate GPA is required for admission?

Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Applicants between 2.75 and 3.0 may be considered for provisional admittance. This is dependent on the institution where the student received their degree.

Will students with a bachelor's degree in a non-engineering field be considered?

Typically, the admissions committee is looking for students who have a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (electrical, civil, mechanical, chemical) or an intensive science (chemistry or physics). Applicants can still apply without one of these undergraduate disciplines, however the admissions committee prefers that students who have received a non-engineering bachelor's degree have a higher GPA, such as a 3.2 or above.

Can students transfer credits into Drexel's online engineering programs?

Transfer credits are subject to department approval. Students have the ability to transfer up to 15 quarter credits from other accredited colleges, but credit can not be more than 7 years old. The transfer credits must also cover an area of the engineering curriculum.

Transfer credits are not accepted into our certificate program, as this is a very specialized Drexel graduate level program.
